Bell repair rescheduled
The bell and public announcement system will be fixed in January or February at the earliest, according to school contractors from Construction Audio Service (CAS). CAS is the third company to work on the repair. Technician Harrison Street said the school wanted the repair to be finished by December 20, which Street said is “not feasible” due to time constraints. A damaged wire router is attributed to the problems, Street said.
Currently, the bells cannot be heard throughout the 700 wing.
Students file math petition
A group of sophomores currently in Winnie Tseng’s Algebra II Honors class has begun a petition to have Tseng teach Trigonometry Honors next year instead of Steve Cochran, who is scheduled to teach it.
Sophomores Madeline Geisheker and Vanessa Patel are responsible for the petition, which now has two pages of signatures.
“[The petition] has nothing to do with [not liking] Mr. Cochran.… We wanted Mr. Cochran for two years and Ms. Tseng for two years,” Vanessa said.
Schiffman on leave
Spanish teacher Maureen Schiffman begins maternity leave today, forcing five Spanish classes to switch teachers at the semester.
Schiffman does not plan on returning to teach until August 2004. However, the administration has yet to select a substitute for the remaining semester.
“All my classes are really great classes, and I’m sure they will turn out with whomever the substitute happens to be,” Schiffman said.
