Michael Orton Water Polo

Senior Michael’s big advantage lies in one of his more uncommon qualities: he is left-handed. As a left-handed driver on the right wing, Michael has become a sort of quarterback to the team, throwing passes to all other players. This season, he’s gotten more assists than anyone else. He is also good at providing his teammates with different views on the rules.
“We wouldn’t be where we are without him,” senior Nick Westrum said.

Samantha Lam Tennis

Freshman Samantha has only been playing tennis for four years, but with scores like 6-0, 6-0 coming out of just about every tournament, she is an important asset to the team. Last month, Sam was ranked third in California. Her teammates say that she has the will power to stay in the game no matter what, and they note her awesome serve, consistency and power.
“Sam will always be counted on to win,” junior Tessa Ameri said. “She kicks butt every single game.”

Alec Nickolls Cross-Country

While other runners might think it’s a little bit tiresome to run eight miles a day, sophomore Alec complains it’s just too short. He never thinks any workout is too difficult, and he is always ready and willing to take them on head first. A huge inspiration to the team, Alec breaks his personal records and is a great distance runner.

“His energy and love for running are inspiring to the rest of the team, because he is always pushing himself to do better no matter how much he has improved,” senior Vivian Chu said.

Lauren Wyckoff Water Polo

As the coach’s daughter, sophomore Lauren already has it tougher than the other players, but she meets the challenge with her mean looking pump fake face, which she practices to make more realistic. Her experience with the game and aggressiveness has made her one of the strongest players, and teammates say she is very good at keeping everyone motivated.

“She has improved a lot since last year, and she’s becoming a real leader for the team,” senior Sarah Murray said.
