Graduate makes hall of fame
Allie Miller, class of ’04, was selected as the 2004 San Jose Sports Hall of Fame female athlete of the year. Allie placed first in the 100 and 300-meter hurdles and the high jump in both league and CCS finals last spring. She was also 2004 State High Jump Champion with an 5’9 and 1/ 4”. The program has been in existence for 10 years, and Alli is the first school athlete ever to receive the honor.
A recognition ceremony including a reception, silent auction, dinner and Induction Ceremony will be held November 4 at 5:30 p.m. in the HP Pavilion San Jose. Tickets are $150. If planning to attend, contact MVLA District Administrative Assistant Mary Moore by October 14 so a table can be organized for all of Alli’s supporters.
Armenta is athlete of the week
Senior Johnny Armenta, a football full back-linebacker, was named Peninsula Athlete of the Week for the week of October 6 by the San Jose Mercury News. Johnny “was a force on both sides of the ball in the Eagles’ 35-7 victory over Monta Vista,” according to the Mercury News.
Offensively, he rushed 14 times for 115 yards and three touchdowns. On defense, he made five tackles and returned an interception for 43 yards.
Open gym at lunch
The gym is open at lunch for intramurals on all days except Tuesdays and one Thursday a month. Basketball, volleyball, table tennis and badminton are offered depending on the sport being played in PE.
PE teacher Jim Phillips checks out equipment and supervises the activities. He also will organize all future intramural tournaments.
