With band members overcoming homelessness and substance abuse, there is little surprise that the majority of The Used’s lyrics are so emotional. If any band knows how to play a good emo-punk song, it’s The Used.

18th Annual Bridge School Benefit
Date: 10/24
Time: 5 p.m.
Venue: Shoreline Amphitheater in Mountain View
Price: $38.75
The Bridge School is a school dedicated to children with physical and speech impairments. This year’s benefit show’s lineup includes greats such as Paul McCartney, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Los Lonely Boys, Ben Harper and the founder of the benefit, Neil Young.

Courtney Love
Date: 10/26
Time: 8 p.m.
Venue: The Fillmore in San Francisco
Price: $32.50
Once married to rock legend Kurt Cobain of Nirvana, Courtney Love has gone solo after a long stint with band Hole. Her latest single “Mono” has already sold millions.

Good Charlotte and Sum 41
Date: 10/27
Time: 7 p.m.
Venue: San Jose State Event Center Arena
Price: $28.50
Two pop punk favorites today, these bands have been gaining fame for years. Good Charlotte’s “Festival Song” remains one of their biggest hits, while Sum 41 work on their newest CD, “Chuck.”

Five for Fighting
Date: 10/27
Time: 8 p.m.
Venue: The FIllmore in San Francisco
Price: $20
Five for Fighting is an alternative band currently touring California from October 26 to October 30. Their main member, John Ondrasik, is primarily a singer and songwriter. The band has three albums out, titled “America Town,” “Message for Albert” and “The Battle for Everything.”

Megadeth
Date: 10/28
Time: 8 p.m.
Venue: The Warfield in San Francisco
Price: $25
Originally spawning off of Metallica, metal legend Megadeth return with their brand new CD, “The System Has Failed,” which is already climbing the Billboard Charts. Their single is titled “Die Dead Enough.”
